The Only Way Forward

The Only Way Forward

Healing is always the only way forward. Jesus purchased healing on behalf of all. I have been doing extensive seeking and reflecting throughout this past season, navigating significant heart healing, deconstructing false beliefs, renewing my mind, and seeking first His Kingdom and His righteousness for the path ahead, not wanting anything to hinder my Heavenly Father’s plans and purposes for my journey in this life. One is never too young or too old to walk through the process with Holy Spirit and someone with His love and compassion who will walk beside you in the journey.

I recently had a revelatory dream. It was personally unsettling, but the dream has major ramifications for this generation and I have felt led to share. Holy Spirit confirmed via the following Scripture.

Isaiah 45:10-11 (AMP), “Woe to him [who complains against his parents that they have begotten him] who says to a father, What are you begetting? or to a woman, With what are you in travail? Thus says the Lord, the Holy One of Israel, and its Maker: Would you question Me about things to come concerning My children, and concerning the work of My hands [would you] command Me?”

Offenses

When I was 20 year old, I thought the only way forward was to write my parents a horrible accusatory letter. I have most definitely sought their forgiveness for that season and have spent the better part of my adult life trying to make up for it. The reason Holy Spirit prompted me to share about this now, in this latter season of my life, is that we currently live in a culture where our words, our actions, and our arrogance, whether based on education, cultural lens, personality, peers, social media, politics, religion, therapy, etc. will most certainly have consequences that will come back at some juncture in life, even if we have asked forgiveness and walked with the Lord for decades. It’s called sowing and reaping. It’s a quantum law. At the core of it all, more so than the letter itself, was offenses.

My immature words, actions, and offenses were many decades ago. The reasons behind those initial offenses have not really changed, there have been many more opportunities to continue to be offended, however, I am the one who needed to change my responses/reactions to the offenses. Offense is the number one strategy of darkness to keep people divided and out of alignment with our Heavenly Father’s good plans and purposes for each of us, as well as misaligned with one another. Jesus took on all of our offenses, betrayals, abuses, and every other adversity that requires deep healing and restoration.

Reaping Multiplied

Last year, I was taken completely off guard and beyond shocked when I received the very thing I had sown all those years ago, multiplied (exactly as Scripture states). This time the format was emails, rather than a letter. Holy Spirit instantly spoke to my spirit, “In your anger, do not sin.” I had just been stabbed through the heart. While being flooded with a plethora of deeply hurt emotions, however, anger was not one of them. The emails, however, exuded nothing but anger. I did not respond nor do I ever intend to.

With Holy Spirit’s help, I have learned the only way forward is to turn the other cheek quickly and heal well. Forgive quickly and move on. Letting go is sometimes a bit slower. There have been plenty of opportunities to practice it all while being extremely intentional to work on my own healing in the midst of the fallout in all that transpired…the multiplied reaping of what I sowed through accusatory words to my parents written decades ago, the root cause being offenses. It’s been traumatic, horrifically hurtful, and devastating…to some extent the unresolvedness of it all still is. I continue to work through it with Holy Spirit, one day at a time. The pitfalls of ‘woulda, coulda, shoulda’ are very real on this side of life.

Dispelling Lies

Looking in the rear view mirror, however, is never helpful or healing. One can literally get stuck there, impacting not only mental, emotional, and spiritual, but profoundly, the physical. Only to the extent that one processes the past in order to move forward with a different lens can looking back ever be helpful.

There’s always a wrestle with whether or not what was said was true? Having battled an orphan spirit into my mid-40’s, the enemy was always able pulverize me in my mind and emotions with the ‘never measure up,’ ‘not good enough’ trap. The enemy would absolutely have me think I was all of the horrible things accused of in the emails, shutting me down completely for the remainder of this life. However, as a daughter of the Most High, adopted, love, and accepted I know how to navigate that battle much better in this season of life.

Overcoming With Truth

My husband holds the best and most intimately truthful perspective on all of it with 46+ years of marriage and both of us walking through most of it with the Lord at the center. He has spoken the Lord’s truth over me in every detail from the onset – how the Lord sees me. It’s not a blind spot. It’s the Lord’s Truth for everyone because of Jesus. There is no perfect parent – there never was nor will there ever be. No matter how intensely, passionately, fervently, or perfectly we strive at it, the only perfect human being in all of time is Jesus.

With the Lord’s help and grace, we simply do our best one day at a time. Jesus is our only way forward. I know that I gave my family 200% of myself from the womb on. As a mom, I was so intentional about training up my children in His ways and for His glory as Kingdom leaders, I gave up the ‘career’ I immeasurably loved in order to use all of my energy, education, love, time, and devotion on their behalf all the way through to empty nest. I still do so for those who will receive it. Devoting myself to my family so intentionally has made empty nesting one of the most difficult challenges I have had to adjust to. While raising a family, I gave up far too much of myself over the years. In giving too much, entitlement crept in. Entitlement breeds offense.

An Offended Generation

An offended entitled generation is the juncture where this American culture has arrived. Jason Upton addresses it in his new album through the song, Blood On Our Hands (see lyrics below). I highly recommended his new album, Mothers & Fathers/Sisters & Sons, in its entirety! It was also addressed in a song Holy Spirit gave me back in 2008, Too Much Religion (see lyrics below). Entitlement is what empowers us to ‘complain against our parents,’ accuse them for everything we perceive they did wrong, question every they did, cut them off, and leave them to age alone. It’s become an epidemic in this nation.

Entitlement and offense, however, have spiritual and natural consequences: sowing and reaping; quantum laws. Entitled choices rooted in offense may not necessarily be experienced until decades later, but they will be experienced. This truth I know all too well. It is for this very reason, I pray over each one through whom I reaped what I sowed those many years ago so painfully in the now.

Prayers That Bless and Release

I pray that they would NOT have to experience any of the consequences of their words, actions, or their offenses. The Lord’s prayer has been a focus over each one from their conception and continues to be so. Psalm 91 angels and Heaven’s blessings are decreed over them every single day since the ‘Halloween from hell,’ (my reference to the day my own reaping manifested), and will continue to be. In the same light, I will continue to receive my husband’s words over me as the Lord’s Proverbs 31 woman…His Esther…and His Deborah…

Enlarging Our Capacity

Holy Spirit gave us specific directives in all of this early on (being especially specific regarding our adopted children). He has walked us through it all. He never leaves us or forsakes us nor does He leave us as orphans. Rather, Jesus fills us with Holy Spirit to guide us, teach us, and lead us each and every day in each and every season. Leading us into overcoming throughout the journey enlarges our capacity to love, to forgive, to walk in compassion, mercy, gentleness, empathy, and grace for each one He sends us or each one He sends us to who is walking through far more difficult traumatic circumstances. For that, I am thankful, grateful, and blessed. I am beyond thankful, grateful, and blessed by and for my husband, for those who have always spoken encouraging words, and for the restoration of relationships that have manifested.

Honor Your Parents

My encouragement and exhortation to this generation is to honor your parents. If for no other reason, simply because they are your parents. Millions of aborted, abandoned, and orphaned children will never get that opportunity in this life. Whoever your parents are, they did the best they could. Be grateful and thankful to the Lord for His loving care and provision through them on your behalf, regardless of their imperfections. The Lord showed me through the dream, I had been offended. By doing what I did, I was actually offended at Him – at His choices for me and how He chose to manifest His love, affection, healing, nurturing, presence, comfort, etc..

We need to stop being the offended entitled generation because in essence, our offense is against our Heavenly Father. We have become a Job generation. Accusers all. Entitled all. Offended all. ’Whatever you gave me Lord, it wasn’t enough and I want more,’ ‘I don’t like how You made me’ (or in the words of Jason Upton below, “Took all You gave for granted Keep asking You for more…”

The Need For Encounters

An authentic encounter with our Creator will silence it all, just as it did Job and all of his accuser friends. Our Heavenly Father already did everything that was needed on our behalf. His Son purchased our healing, our redemption, and the restoration of ALL that’s been lost. Most importantly, He purchased our intimate fellowship with the One who love us best and most. Encounters in His Presence are the only way forward in all of the entitlement, offenses, accusations, division, and misalignment in this current age. This misalignment is absolutely as out of sync and as out of control in the church as it is in the world.

For The Traumatized and Broken

For those who had parents who were abusive, absent, neglectful, addicts, etc. pray for them…forgive them…bless them. Seek help for all the reasons you are not healed and whole from someone who walks with Holy Spirit in coming alongside you in your journey. It doesn’t mean you have to give them access to your life or trust them ever again. It simply means you have the freedom to move forward healed and whole. Again, one is never too young or too old to walk through the process with Holy Spirit and someone with His love and compassion who will walk beside you in the journey.

Choose Counsel Wisely

Choose wisely who comes alongside you. Do not choose a counselor trained up by this very culture who is majorly misaligned and contributing to the disfunction, offenses, and brokenness. Don’t choose one who doesn’t remotely understand the spiritual aspect of body, mind, soul, and emotions through a Kingdom lens.

Your choice to seek your own healing will reap good things, even if the process is slow and painful. Even if the circumstances involving the relationships never change. The Lord will turn it all to good some how, some way. Of this I am 100% certain because our Heavenly Father is wholeheartedly loving and kind. Jesus came to tangibly demonstrate that lovingkindness in all that He did on behalf of every individual…on behalf of ALL mankind. Jesus purchased the restoration of all.

BLOOD ON OUR HANDS

VERSE

For our silence on injustice

How we′ve turned a blinded eye

Being siloed from the suffering

Insulated from their cries

Lord, forgive us

Lord, heal us

Lord, help us to do better

How we’ve ridiculed the voices

Prophesying in Your name

Then commodified their memory

Once we′ve chased them to the grave

Lord, forgive us

Lord, heal us

Lord, help us to do better

CHORUS

Father, forgive us

For all that we have done

We’ve got blood on our hands

The blood of daughters and sons

We’ve buried all our prophets

And crucified the Lord

Took all You gave for granted

Keep asking You for more

Lord, forgive us

Lord, heal us

Lord, help us to do better

VERSE

For how we′ve reaped but never planted

Never gardened, never plowed

How the forests we were given

Have become a wasteland now

Lord, forgive us

Lord, heal us

Lord, help us to do better

How we sacrifice our future

And disregard the loss

Roll the dice on our existence

Let our children bear the cost

Lord, forgive us

Lord, heal us

Lord, help us to do better

CHORUS

Father, forgive us

For all that we have done

We′ve got blood on our hands

The blood of daughters and sons

We’ve buried all our prophets

And crucified the Lord

Took all You gave for granted

Keep asking You for more

Lord, forgive us

Lord, heal us

Lord, help us to do better

VERSE

For the kindness we′ve forgotten

How we’ve lifted up the sword

For the grace that we have cheapened

And humility we′ve scorned

Lord, forgive us

Lord, heal us

Lord, help us to do better

For every unborn baby

That our justice has ignored

For countless generations

Of misogyny and war

Lord, forgive us

Lord, heal us

Lord, help us to do better

BRIDGE

Have we lost the gift of hunger?

Are we thirsty anymore?

Is anybody weeping?

Do we still know how to mourn?

We’re all tired of easy answers

Wondering what religion′s for

We’re all restless hearts in need of

Mercy we cannot afford

VERSE

How we’ve gambled for the garments

And divided up the truth

Made Jesus Christ, the Living Word

Another weapon that we use

CHORUS

Father, forgive us

For all that we have done

We′ve got blood on our hands

The blood of daughters and sons

We′ve buried all our prophets

And crucified the Lord

Took all You gave for granted

Keep asking You for more

Lord, help us to do better
